Reliable choice for coding AI

I've been a Kilo user since pretty early on, primarily for the JetBrains Plugin and CLI Coding Agent. This latest purchase of the Kilo Pass was mainly for the updated Claude 3.5 Sonnet integration and it didn't disappoint. It's consistently good, just like my previous experiences. The BYOK model is still a big reason I stick with Kilo; it's transparent and cost-effective. Always reliable for my daily coding tasks.

Solid tool, minor hiccup

I purchased the Kilo Pass for the multi-model AI chat and local Llama 3 support. The integration with JetBrains was smooth, and having access to different models with my own keys is a huge plus for privacy. I did notice the AI Code Completion could be a bit slow sometimes on larger files, but overall it's a very practical solution for developers. Good value for what it offers.

Helped me out with a bug

So I was stuck on this annoying bug all afternoon, right? Decided to try Kilo's AI Debugging Assistant through the CLI. Honestly, it pointed me in the right direction way faster than I would've figured it out myself. Felt pretty good about that. Super helpful.

Detailed Kilo Pass experience

I opted for the Kilo Pass and integrated it primarily through the VS Code Extension. The setup for Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) for GPT-4o was clearly documented and took about ten minutes. I found the AI Unit Test Generation to be surprisingly robust for common cases, saving me quite a bit of manual work. The Context-Aware Coding feature was also quite effective, understanding my codebase better than other tools I've tried. Delivery of the access keys was instant after purchase. Support for a small query about Llama 3 local setup responded within a few hours. The only thing is, sometimes the suggestion pop-ups were a little distracting, but that's minor.

Absolutely loving Kilo IDE!

I got the Kilo IDE and it's been fantastic! The Cloud AI Agent works seamlessly and the Automated Refactoring has saved me so much effort. I love that I can use my own API keys, it feels really secure. This is exactly what I needed for my coding workflow. I'm telling everyone in my dev team about this!

Is the Kilo Pass worth it, or should I just stick with the free parts? What even is the KiloClaw thing?

R Raj Osei 2 months ago
Kilo Pass gives you access to more features and a bunch of models without managing keys yourself. KiloClaw is like, their special local AI thingy, more for privacy and speed if you have the hardware. It's kinda different.

Depends on what you need. If you want easy access to a lot of models without BYOK, the Pass is good. KiloClaw is for running stuff on your own machine, better for super sensitive code imo.

How does Kilo compare to something like Copilot? I've been using Copilot for a while but always open to better options.

M Mark 2 months ago
Kilo lets you use your own API keys for models like GPT-4o or Claude, so you're not locked into one. Plus, it can use local models too, which Copilot doesn't really do.

Big difference is Kilo's BYOK (bring your own key) model. You get to pick which AI and use your own tokens. Copilot is just... Copilot. Kilo also seems to have better context awareness.

Thinking of getting Kilo, but does it actually integrate well with JetBrains? I use IntelliJ all the time.

S Steve Kim 2 months ago
Yeah, it does. I use it with PyCharm and the plugin works pretty seamlessly. Just install it like any other plugin.

It's good, I haven't had any issues with Rider. Pretty sure it supports all JetBrains IDEs, not just specific ones. So IntelliJ should be fine.

Are there any Black Friday deals for Kilo coming up? Don't wanna buy now if it's gonna be cheaper soon.

C Cody N. 2 months ago
They usually have Black Friday sales. I remember getting a discount on an annual plan last year during that time.

Definitely wait if you can! Black Friday and Cyber Monday are big for them, usually 20% off annual stuff or Kilo Pass.

if i contribute to an open source project, do i get free credits or something for Kilo?

B Brett A. 2 months ago
Yes, they have a program for open source contributors where you can get credits. It's a nice perk for giving back to the community.

Pretty sure they do. Check their 'community' or 'contributor' sections on the site, I remember seeing something about it there. Good way to get some free Kilo time.
